Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to bring some clarification as to what drives CÉF to put into place the best educational services it is able to provide students under current circumstances. There are almost 4 months left in the 2019-2020 school year. Much learning remains for students as they prepare for next year and, in some cases, for their journey into post-secondary studies.
The Ministry of Education has requested that all school divisions pause students’ educational activities over the coming week, in order to allow school staff and families to adjust to the new reality. The week-long break will also help counter the spread of COVID-19, thanks to social distancing.
Therefore:
- As of March 20, schools will close for an indefinite period.
- From March 20 to 27 inclusive, school employees will be on leave.
- From March 30 to April 3, school teams will continue their preparation for the new course delivery mode.
- March 30 and 31 will be devoted to planning and staff training on the new teaching platform.
- April 1st will be a day of preparation AND online connection verification with the students -- your school will develop a connection schedule and notify you of the time arranged for your child to join as a first experience on the platform.
- The educational activities dispensed to students will begin on Monday, April 6, until April 9.
- The Easter holiday will take place from April 10 to 17.
Please note that the proposed educational activities aim to support your child in the pursuit of his or her learning. Parents are free to accept or refuse to take advantage of this educational provision at their own discretion.
Next Steps
Individual schools will communicate with each family during the week of March 30 to provide more details about the educational provision. CÉF’s intention is to offer adapted services for the extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves today. We will assess the needs on a case-by-case basis and suggest solutions to parents who wish to continue supporting the educational success of their children while schools remain closed.
Conseil des Écoles Fransaskoises has established guidelines to be followed by schools when developing learning sessions for students. Each CÉF school will impart its local flavor to tailoring the content for every student.
Overview of educational services provided for each age group:
- Kindergarten to Grade 3: educational activities in French, using various means, such as songs, stories, reading and mathematical concepts will be covered.
- Grades 4 to 6: math, French and English lessons will be offered via distance learning.
- Grades 7 to 9: math, French, English, and high school prerequisite courses will be offered.
- Grades 10 to 12: most of the courses in which students are currently enrolled will be offered.
Contacting the school
You may continue to use your school’s phone number. The school secretary will answer your calls and make sure your messages get to the appropriate staff member.
CÉF will soon make a toll-free number which will allow you to communicate with counselors who can guide you in caring for your children at home. An online resource bank will also be made available, allowing you to offer various educational activities to your children from home.
Over the next few weeks and months, the schools' daily schedules will be maintained in telework mode.
